Granite Bar Tops

Frequently Asked Questions

A granite bar top is a granite surface used as the working and serving top of a bar — a home bar, a kitchen island breakfast bar, or an outdoor bar. It is a single piece or jointed pieces of granite cut to the bar's dimensions, polished on the top and exposed edges. Granite is used for bar tops because it resists heat, scratches, stains, and spills from drinks and food.

Yes. Granite handles the conditions a bar surface faces — glasses, bottles, heat, acidic spills like citrus and alcohol, and frequent cleaning — better than wood, laminate, or solid surface. It does not scratch from normal use, does not burn from a hot pan or dish, and once sealed it resists staining. For a surface that sees daily food and drink contact, granite is a practical long-term choice.

The standard thickness for a granite bar top is 20mm (¾ inch) or 30mm (1¼ inch). 30mm is the more common choice for bars because it gives a solid edge appearance and needs less support across spans. Thicker edges can also be built up by laminating two pieces at the edge for a heavier look.

For 30mm granite, an unsupported overhang of up to 150mm (6 inches) is generally safe. For 20mm granite, keep the unsupported overhang to about 100mm (4 inches). Beyond these limits, add support.

The cost of a granite bar top depends on the granite variety, the size, the thickness, and the edge profile. Standard black granite costs less than premium varieties like Black Galaxy. Price is calculated on the finished area plus edge work and any cut-outs. Because Stone Galleria manufactures directly, the bar top is priced at factory rate. Send your bar dimensions — length, width, overhang depth, thickness, and edge profile — along with your granite choice. You will receive a quote with factory pricing and lead time. On confirmation, the top is fabricated to your sizes, checked, and dispatched. For complex shapes, a simple drawing or sketch with measurements is enough to start.

Yes. Domestic orders are dispatched by road from our factory in Kishangarh, Rajasthan. Export orders are packed in fumigated wooden crates with edge protection and dispatched from Mundra.

A granite bar top is a granite surface used as the top of a bar — a home bar, a kitchen island breakfast bar, or an outdoor bar. Granite is used for bar tops because it resists heat, scratches, stains, and spills from drinks and food, and it lasts for decades with simple care. Stone Galleria manufactures and supplies custom granite bar tops from its factory in Kishangarh, Rajasthan, cut to your exact size for home, commercial, and outdoor use, with supply across India and for export.

From Raw Granite Block to Your Finished Bar Top

Stone Galleria processes granite end to end, from the raw quarry block through to the finished bar top. The block is cut into slabs, the slabs are calibrated and polished, and the top is then cut to your dimensions, edge-profiled, and finished. Because every stage happens in-house, the colour, thickness, and finish stay consistent — and a bar top can be matched to a kitchen counter, island, or flooring in the same granite. We are not limited to bar tops: the same processing covers slabs, countertops, flooring, steps, vanity tops, and more, so a full project can be supplied in one matching granite from a single source.

What Is a Granite Bar Top Used For

Granite bar tops are used in three common settings:

Home bar tops are the surface of a built-in or standalone bar in a living room, basement, or entertainment area. The top is cut to the bar unit's size and polished on the top and exposed edges.

Breakfast bar and kitchen island tops extend from a kitchen island or counter to create a seating and serving surface. The seating side overhangs the base so people can sit with legroom underneath. Granite is used here because it handles food, drink, and daily cleaning, and it can be cut from the same granite as the kitchen counter for a continuous look.

Outdoor bar tops are used on patio bars, garden bars, and outdoor kitchens. Granite suits outdoor use because it withstands sun, rain, and temperature change better than most surfaces when properly sealed.

Is Granite Good for a Bar Top

Yes. A bar surface faces glasses, bottles, heat, acidic spills from citrus and alcohol, and frequent cleaning. Granite does not scratch from normal use, does not burn from a hot dish, and resists staining once sealed. Compared with wood, laminate, or solid surface, granite is a longer-lasting choice for a surface in daily food and drink contact.

Granite Bar Top Thickness

The standard thickness for a granite bar top is 20mm or 30mm. 30mm is the common choice for bars — it gives a solid edge and spans further with less support. 20mm is used where weight or budget matters and is usually backed by a plywood sub-top. A heavier edge can be created by laminating two pieces at the edge for a thicker appearance without the full slab weight.

Granite Bar Top Support and Overhang

A granite bar top needs support wherever it extends past its base. Granite is strong but can crack if an unsupported section is too long. As a general guide, 30mm granite can carry an unsupported overhang up to about 150mm, and 20mm granite up to about 100mm. Beyond that, the overhang needs support — steel angle brackets, flat steel bars set into the cabinet, or corbels. A breakfast bar where people sit with knees underneath usually has a 250–300mm overhang, which always needs support. Tell us your overhang depth and we will advise the support it needs.

Black Granite Bar Tops and Other Colours

Black granite is the most requested colour for bar tops because it hides marks and pairs with most cabinets and floors. Stone Galleria supplies bar tops in Absolute Black, Jet Black, Black Galaxy, and grey, speckled, and lighter varieties. The bar top can be matched to an existing kitchen counter or chosen as a contrast feature. Premium granites such as Black Galaxy are priced higher than standard black varieties.

Edge Profiles for Granite Bar Tops

Bar tops are finished with an edge profile of your choice — straight (eased), bullnose, half-bullnose, bevel, or a built-up laminated edge for a thicker look. The edge profile affects both appearance and price. If your bar top continues from a kitchen counter, the edge is usually matched to the counter for consistency.

Granite Bar Top Price

The price of a granite bar top depends on the granite variety, size, thickness, edge profile, and any cut-outs. Standard black granite costs less than premium varieties. Price is calculated on the finished area plus edge work. Because Stone Galleria manufactures directly, the top is priced at factory rate without trader margins. Share your dimensions, granite choice, and thickness for an exact quote.

Custom-Made Granite Bar Tops

Granite bar tops are cut to order — any length, width, thickness, edge profile, and shape, including straight, L-shaped, and curved-front bars, with cut-outs for sinks or fittings as needed. Send your measurements or a simple drawing and the top is fabricated to match. Custom work covers single home bars and multi-unit commercial and project orders.

Granite Bar Top Samples, Ordering, and Delivery

Samples are dispatched on request so you can check the colour and finish in your own space before ordering; the sample cost is adjusted against the order if you proceed. A standard bar top in stock material takes 3 to 7 working days to fabricate; custom shapes and project orders take longer. Domestic orders are dispatched by road from Kishangarh; export orders are packed in fumigated crates with edge protection and dispatched from Mundra or Nhava Sheva port, with documentation handled in-house.

Looking for a Bar Top in Another Stone?

Granite is one option for a bar top, but not the only one. Stone Galleria also processes and supplies marble, sandstone, and quartzite — useful if you want a bar top to match a floor or surface in a different stone. Quartzite in particular is harder than granite and resists heat and scratches well, which makes it a strong choice for a bar surface.
